66 kV - The voltage level for modern offshore wind farms
In the last years, wind energy has developed rapidly. Not only the number of wind farms, but also the nominal output of wind turbines is steadily increasing, especially in offshore wind power. This is a good development, as it allows more wind to be harvested and converted into green electricity. However, it also increases the challenge of transporting electricity reliably, safely and as loss-free as possible to the consumer. The cables became thicker, heavier and inflexible, connection and assembly took more time and the installation costs of the entire infrastructure increased.
Only a few years ago it was decided to increase the voltage level and to advance from the 33 kV medium-voltage range to the 66 kV high-voltage range for modern offshore wind farms. High voltage is demanding for the energy infrastructure and a specialty of PFISTERER. Reason enough to develop the world's most comapct connection system for the new voltage level, which is about to be launched soon.

We are pleased to announce our new product line for offshore wind farms at WindEnergy Hamburg: the world's most compact connection system for the 66 kV high-voltage level - fast, lean, safe and flexible. It features a dry, plug-in design, making it easy to install, water-proof, UV-resistant, submersible, touch-proof and low-maintenance.
Our new connector (its beautiful name is currently still a secret) is suitable for 72 kV, is a good 30% smaller and 35% lighter than its predecessor and is still in no way inferior: With a maximum diameter over insulation of 55 mm, it is suitable for XLPE, as well as EPR cable.
The matching socket with dimensions according to EN 50673: 2018, comes with voltage withstand levels according to GIS manufacturer specification, cast resin insulation material and is suitable for all installation positions.
The same goes for the cast resin insulated pluggable joints, with a reduced length by up to 50% and are half the weight of their predecessor model. They are touch proof and each phase is individually positionable.
In addition, there is an ideally matching portfolio of complementary products. Our plug-in systems CONNEX and PLUG as well as our SICON connectors easily and reliably connect all parts of the wind farm. All system components are constructed for offshore use: weatherproof, saltwater resistant and shockproof.
