Discover the future of 1 kV cable connections!

Bolted connectors have become established worldwide for connecting low-voltage cables. They are safe, economical and easy to install. PFISTERER bolted connectors can be used regardless of conductor material and conductor design and fulfil and exceed all current standards.

The new bare connectors set standards in terms of ease of installation and ageing stability. The new heart-shaped conductor channel simplifies conductor insertion, while contact elements taken from the SICON medium-voltage connectors ensure the best electrical and mechanical performance.

The insulated low-voltage connectors fulfil the highest standards for live working and make it possible to work safely under demanding conditions.

Matching joint sets for the professional connection of plastic-insulated low-voltage cables and for the transition from paper-insulated to plastic-insulated low-voltage cables round off the PFISTERER portfolio.

Heart-shaped conductor channel for easier installation - New low voltage connectors

PFISTERER reinvented the conductor channel for low voltage bolted connectors. Not only does the heart shape offer advantages in terms of easier installation, but the electrical and mechanical properties of the connectors have also been significantly improved. Proven contact and design features have been taken from the medium voltage SICON bolted connectors and adapted to the specific requirements of low voltage. The result is a new generation of bolted connectors that sets new standards.

Easier installation

The new, large heart-shaped conductor channel makes installation even easier. The bolts end flush with the straight upper edge of the conductor channel. This makes it easier to insert crushed or protruding conductor ends, and prevents the individual wires from catching or snagging. Sufficient space between the bolt and inspection hole or oil stop enables clear and secure positioning, even under challenging installation conditions.

Simple and reliable

Depending on their size, the new shear bolts have one or two defined shear points. They ensure the smallest possible protrusion after installation. After the bolt shears off, the large size of the hexagon head prevents it of getting stuck in the installation tool. As an alternative to shear bolts, the connectors are also available with grub screws. All connectors meet the bolt protrusion requirements of the DIN SPEC 47640 standard. No rework is necessary for heat shrinking over the connectors.

Barrier or inspection hole

PFISTERER low-voltage connectors can be used with any conductor type and conductor material. Connectors with barrier enable the longitudinally watertight connection of aluminium and copper cables. The combination of connector with an inspection hole and a joint with parking position makes installation easier, especially with larger conductor cross-sections. The connectors can be pushed completely over the conductor, bending the rigid conductors is not neccessary.

Best electrical connection

The special thread on the shear bolts and grub screws enables high contact force with a low tightening torque. The friction disc at the bottom of the bolts prevents damage to individual strands during installation, and ensures optimum contact forces over the entire service life of the connection regardless of the conductor material and shape. The new conductor channel shape significantly increases the contact surface for round and sector-shaped conductors. The conductor channel grooves have been adapted from the SICON connectors. The individual transverse grooves break through the oxidation layer and ensure low contact resistance as well as high conductor pull-out forces.

The right connector for every application

All connectors with heart shaped conductor channel are available in four different versions. Depending on the application, there is a choice of connector bodies with a large inspection hole or with an oil stop. Both versions are available with shear bolts or grub screws. The connectors can be mounted regardless of the conductor material and type – even special types such as 120° sector conductors can be inserted without time-consuming step of round compression.

Benefits:

  • Generously dimensioned conductor channel
  • For all conductor materials and types, including 120° sector
  • High contact force with low tightening torque
  • Mechanically and electrically tested to IEC 61238-1-1 class A
  • Suitable for heat-shrinkable joints in accordance with DIN SPEC 47640
  • Generous space behind the bolt for secure conductor positioning

Live line working – easy & safe - LV piercing connectors

Live line working is increasingly essential in low voltage networks. Bolted connectors used for this purpose should be easy to install and ensure the best possible occupational safety. The LV piercing connector family from PFISTERER has been developed to meet today’s practical requirements. Durable contacts come as standard, and have been a PFISTERER core competence for nearly 100 years.

Conductor does not have to be stripped

LV piercing connectors connect and make electrical contact with conductor ends, whatever the conductor cross-section, type and insulation. Because they pierce the insulation during installation, preparatory work on the conductor, such as stripping or brushing the contact area, is eliminated. The shear bolts on LV piercing connectors are based on patented SICON technology. The bolts are equipped with a piercing system that reliably penetrates the conductor insulation during installation. A rotatable disc at the base of the bolt prevents damage to individual strands and ensures the correct contact force for all conductor materials.

Good occupational safety

The insulating body and plastic cover caps provide IP2X protection against finger contact in accordance with EN 60529. On type 3 and above, plastic flaps prevent inadvertent contact with the inside of the conductor channel. The elastomer insert ensures protection against contact after the bolts shear off.

Low shear off torque

The shear off bolts are tightened using standard tools. Once the optimal contact force is reached, the bolt gently breaks away at a torque of between 2.5 and 27 Nm, depending on the type. This prevents common installation errors and makes live line working much safer.

Compact and well designed

Once installed, the small size of LV piercing connectors makes subsequent work easier. Compact joints with cast resin mean that fewer resources are needed for the final installation. The connectors can be placed close to each other without any further accessories. Type 1 and 2 are equipped with a pushtogether system: multiple connectors can be joined together to form a compact unit. With type 3 to 5, the elimination of the cover caps ensures the smallest possible dimensions.

Benefits:

  • Insulation does not have to be stripped from individual conductors
  • Easy, safe installation – ideal for live line working
  • Shear off bolts prevent installation errors
  • IP2X protection against electrical hazards
  • Consistent operational reliability, according to IEC 61238-1 Class A
  • Compact design – less cast resin
  • Creepage distance conform to EN 60664, Pollution Degree 1

Low voltage cables Simple and safe connection - Ready-to-fit complete kit

Connection and transition joint kits are supplied ready to fit. Depending on the version, they contain parts and additional materials required to install four or five-core low voltage cables up to 1 kV. In addition to heat-shrink sleeves conforming to DIN SPEC 47640, PFISTERER also offers solutions for special applications. Connection joints with a repair sleeve allow plastic insulated cables to be joined in confined spaces. Transition joints allow plastic insulated cables to be joined to paper insulated cables [N(A)KLEY and N(A)KBA]

Perfectly matched

The screw connectors are made from high-grade aluminium with excellent electrical properties. They are resistant to chemicals and corrosion, ensuring reliable contacts and cable joints that remain stable over time. The heat-shrink sleeves are made from irradiation crosslinked semicrystalline polymers, combining high mechanical strength with excellent insulation. They are halogen-free, UV and weather resistant, and resistant to alkaline earths. On the inside, they are coated with hotmelt adhesive. This liquefies as the sleeve shrinks and makes the joint watertight when it cools down.
