PFISTERER develops universal repair solution for submarine cables for TenneT

The challenge

TenneT operates numerous 155 kV and 220 kV AC submarine cable connections in the North Sea. The diversity of cable types and manufacturers requires extensive stocks of specific spare parts and repair sleeves, which makes stock management complex and expensive.

The solution

PFISTERER was hired to develop a universal repair sleeve that can be used for many different submarine cables, regardless of the cable manufacturer, material or conductor cross-section. The repair sleeve reduces storage requirements and considerably simplifies handling, meaning that TenneT is optimally prepared when damage occurs.
