PFISTERER supports TenneT in direct current connections – Offshore platform DolWin kappa successfully installed

The challenge

As part of the DolWin6 grid connection project, the DolWin kappa offshore platform had to be installed for the loss-free landward transmission of wind power. The particular challenge here was the integration of two gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) systems and dealing with complex logistical requirements at sea.

The solution

PFISTERER supported the construction of the platform with comprehensive engineering and planning services, supervised the installation and carried out high-voltage testing of the HV cables. Around 200 plug-in CONNEX high-voltage fittings, epoxy resin joints and link boxes were installed to ensure reliable power transmission. Special attention was paid to the first-time use of GIS systems for both the AC and DC sides, which brought considerable space advantages on the platform.

Products used

  • CONNEX connectors up to 245 kV
  • CONNEX plug-in epoxy resin sleeves
  • Gas-insulated elbow joints

Special featuresn

The DolWin kappa platform is the first to have two GIS systems for AC and DC transmission, making the installation space-saving and efficient. In addition, the final high-voltage test was carried out at night in order to adhere to the tight project schedule. A 2 km long Feltoflex cable connection increases grid reliability by establishing an additional connection to the sister platform DolWin beta.
